Awami League Secretary General and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Saturday that making politics centered on anti-Indian and religious sentiments was the old strategy of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

“The BNP is a gossip-centric political party. Telling lies following the strategy of Goebbels (German Nazi politician) is their only weapon,” he told a press conference at his official residence in Dhaka.

Noting that these BNP strategies have become blunt weapons, Quader said the BNP now uses a “religion card” that the Awami League never used.

He said the BNP’s call to ban the government exposed the party’s inconclusive policy.

Any responsible political party with the minimum level of commitment to the country and the people cannot make such comments, he said.

He said the BNP’s policy was similar to the proverb “Make way for your own destroyer”.

The Minister said that when the BNP was in power they kept the less democratic in the country behind the mask of democracy and now they wanted to walk the same path.

The BNP blindly criticizes the government all the time and holds meetings, he said.

On the contrary, they say they have no right to speak, he said, adding that the BNP has made forgery an art.

The BNP wants to lead the country down an undemocratic path, make it a safe haven for terrorism and extremism, and propagate a politics of communal hatred, he said.
